Delhi: Woman Gang-Raped for 2 Hours, Driver and Conductor Arrested

A woman was allegedly gang-raped inside a moving sleeper bus in Delhi for nearly two hours. Police arrested the driver and conductor after tracing the bus through CCTV footage.

Delhi Witnesses Another Nirbhaya

Delhi has once again been shaken by a horrifying crime resembling the 2012 Nirbhaya case. A married woman was allegedly gang-raped inside a moving sleeper bus for nearly two hours before being thrown onto a deserted road by the accused.

According to media reports, the incident took place on the night of May 11 when the woman was returning home after work. The private sleeper bus involved in the case operates on the Delhi-Bihar route and is reportedly registered in Bihar.

Police have arrested the bus driver and conductor after identifying the vehicle through CCTV footage.

Woman Allegedly Dragged Into Bus at Night

As per the victim’s statement, the bus had stopped near a bus stand in the Saraswati Vihar area. The woman reportedly approached a man standing at the bus door to ask for the time.

Instead of responding, the accused allegedly pulled her inside the bus by force. The bus was then driven towards Nangloi, where the woman was allegedly sexually assaulted repeatedly inside the moving vehicle.

Police sources said the accused continued the assault for nearly two hours while the bus kept moving for several kilometres during the night.

At around 2 AM, the woman was allegedly thrown onto a deserted road before the accused fled the spot.

CCTV Footage Helped Police Trace the Bus

After the incident, the victim somehow managed to contact the police and narrate the entire incident.

A team from Rani Bagh Police Station immediately began scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas. Investigators successfully identified the sleeper bus and later seized the vehicle.

Delhi Police confirmed that the driver and conductor were arrested and produced before a court, following which they were sent to judicial custody.

The case is currently under investigation.

Curtains and Closed Windows Hid the Crime

Initial police investigation revealed that the AC sleeper bus had curtains covering the windows, making it difficult for outsiders to notice anything suspicious.

Because of the closed glass windows and air-conditioned environment, the victim’s cries reportedly could not be heard outside the vehicle.

A forensic team was later called to collect evidence from inside the bus.

Bus Registered in Bihar

The bus involved in the alleged gang rape reportedly bears registration number BR-28P 3949 and is registered with the Gopalganj RTO in Bihar.

Police said the vehicle is operated by a private travel company running buses between Delhi and Bihar.

Delhi Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Victim is Married and Mother of Three

Police sources said the victim lives in a slum area with her husband and three daughters.

After the incident, police advised hospital admission after noticing injuries on her body. However, the woman reportedly declined admission, and treatment is currently being provided at her residence.

An FIR has been registered based on her complaint.
