SBI Branches to Stay Shut for 5 Days
India’s largest public sector lender, the State Bank of India (SBI), is set to keep its branches closed for five consecutive days due to weekend holidays, employee strike, and Bakrid celebrations. Customers who need to complete important banking transactions are advised to do so in advance to avoid inconvenience.
According to the schedule, SBI branches will remain closed from May 23 to May 27 in several parts of the country.
May 23 will be a holiday on account of the fourth Saturday, while May 24 is a regular Sunday holiday. In addition, SBI employee unions have announced a two-day strike on May 25 and May 26, leading to further disruption in banking services.
The strike has reportedly been called by the SBI Employees Federation over various employee-related demands.
On May 27, banks will remain closed in many states due to Bakrid celebrations. In some regions where Bakrid falls on May 28, banking services may continue to remain affected for an additional day.
Online Banking Services Will Continue
Despite branch closures, SBI customers can continue using digital banking services without interruption. Services such as UPI payments, internet banking, mobile banking, ATM withdrawals, and online fund transfers are expected to function normally during the holiday period.
Bank officials have advised customers to avoid last-minute branch visits and complete cheque clearances, cash deposits, and other offline transactions before the holiday stretch begins.
