Lati Plot Morbi: Major fire in color shop Learn how trained staff used in built fire systems to prevent a massive disaster and save the godown.

A fire broke out on the top floor of a commercial building in the crowded Lati Plot area of Morbi. The affected floor was a color shop, which soon went up in flames. But thanks to the quick thinking of the employees and the building’s strong safety infrastructure, what could have been a catastrophic disaster was remarkably contained.
The building already had a fully operational fixed fire system, setting a high bar for commercial safety. And importantly, the employees had already received training on how to handle emergencies. As soon as the fire broke out, the internal fire-fighting procedures were started by the staff. “The alert employees could control the fire by themselves to the extent of nearly 80 to 90 per cent,” Deputy Chief Fire Officer Jayesh Daki said.
By the time the Morbi fire department teams reached the incident site, the main danger was over. The fire officials complemented the backup support with water and fire tenders to douse the remaining fire in the entire building.
Most of the building was saved by quick and courageous action although the top floor was badly damaged. The whole of the color shop was burned down, it is said, causing a great financial loss to the owners. Fortunately the lower floors which were a godown and heavily stocked with valuable goods were completely saved from the inferno. This incident is a stark reminder of how effective mandatory fire safety equipment and staff training can be in preventing large scale tragedies in urban commercial areas.
