Apple has removed the dating apps Tea and TeaOnHer from the App Store after they violated content moderation and user privacy rules.
Apple has removed two controversial dating apps Tea and TeaOnHer from its App Store. The company said the apps violated its strict policies regarding content moderation and user privacy. Both apps are now still available on the Google Play Store.
According to App Store intelligence provider Appfigures, these apps were removed from the App Store in all countries on Tuesday. Apple confirmed that the Tea Dating Advice and TeaOnHer apps were removed for violating its App Review Guidelines 1.2, 5.1.2, and 5.6.
According to Apple, these apps were sharing users’ personal information without permission and reports were not being removed timely. Additionally, the company had received complaints about minors’ personal details being posted on these apps.
Apple stated that it reported these problems to the developers, but no action was taken. The company said that the number of user complaints and negative reviews was unusually high, leading to the removal of the apps.
The Tea app, which had been around since 2023, made headlines in 2025 by suddenly going viral. The app was marketed as a dating safety tool for women, allowing them to share information about men—such as their behavior, personal details, and “green flag” or “red flag” ratings.
However, many men called it a privacy invasion and said sharing such information could amount to defamation.
Subsequently, the Tea app suffered a data breach, leaking 72,000 images, including 3,000 photo IDs and selfies.
The TeaOnHer app was launched for men to share information about women in a similar way. However, this app was also found to have security flaws, leading to the leak of users’ personal information, such as government IDs and selfies.
According to Appfigures, the Tea app had 6.1 million downloads and $5 million in revenue, while TeaOnHer had 2.2 million downloads. Both apps have now been removed from the App Store, but remain active on Google Play.
Following the removal of Tea and TeaOnHer, several copycat apps have become popular. Among them, TeaOnHer and Him – Overheard has garnered 354,000 downloads so far and jumped from No. 90 to No. 27 on the App Charts.
