Children’s Cough Ayurveda Tips – Don’t ignore children’s coughs during changing weather. Learn from Dr. R.P. Parashar about home remedies for cough relief according to Ayurveda.
Coughs are common in young children during changing weather. Fluctuating temperatures, humidity, and pollution weaken children’s immunity. In this situation, a persistent cough is caused by swelling and mucus buildup in the throat. It’s not advisable to take this problem lightly, as persistent coughing can lead to breathing difficulties, loss of appetite, and fatigue. Let’s learn from Ayurveda expert Dr. R.P. Parashar about what can be beneficial for children’s coughs.
What should be given according to Children’s Cough Ayurveda Tips?
According to Dr. R.P. Parashar, the most important thing for coughs in young children is to warm the body and provide relief to the throat. According to Ayurveda, some home remedies are considered very effective during this time:
Basil water: Boil some fresh basil leaves in water. Give this lukewarm basil water to your child in small quantities twice a day. It reduces throat inflammation and thins mucus.
Honey and turmeric: Mixing a pinch of turmeric with a teaspoon of honey and giving it twice a day is beneficial. Honey coats the throat, and turmeric’s anti-inflammatory properties soothe coughs. (Note: Honey should not be given to children under one year old.)
Mild ginger juice: Mixing very mild ginger juice, a little lukewarm water, and honey loosens mucus in the throat and provides relief from coughs.
Warm oil massage: Gently rub warm mustard oil mixed with celery on your child’s chest and back at night. This warms the throat and lungs and reduces congestion.
What should not be given to children for cough?
- Avoid giving very cold foods, ice cream, or refrigerated water.
- Fried or heavy foods can affect digestion, increasing mucus production.
- Keep children away from dust, smoke, and polluted air.
- If the cough doesn’t subside within 3-4 days, the child seems restless, or has difficulty breathing, contact a doctor immediately.
Ayurvedic remedies to increase immunity
Ayurveda suggests some common measures to increase the immunity of children, which include giving lukewarm water in the morning, including seasonal fruits, lentils and rice, light soup in the diet of children, giving Giloy water (as per doctor’s advice), adequate sleep and maintaining a clean environment.
Caring for young children during changing weather can be challenging, but proper use of Ayurvedic and home remedies can provide relief from coughs and colds. Never underestimate a child’s cough, and if symptoms worsen, consult a doctor immediately.
