Gujarat: A major revelation has been made during the SIR process in Gujarat. 1.15 lakh repeat voters were found in the state, and the correction of millions of names is ongoing. The Election Commission is taking swift action to increase transparency.
During the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in Gujarat, the Election Commission has discovered several shocking facts. The re-verification of voter numbers, verification, and meticulous scrutiny of identity documents have revealed several important data. This entire process not only makes the electoral system more transparent but also strengthens fairness in upcoming elections.
The biggest revelation of this comprehensive review was that over 1.15 lakh voters in the state were found to have repeat names, meaning the same person’s name was found to be registered in two or more places. Election Commission teams are now working rapidly to remove these duplicate names and ensure the list is accurate and precise.
Furthermore, during the verification process, over 100,000 voters were found absent from their registered addresses. When teams arrived at homes for verification, many were found locked or the person concerned was not residing there. Further detailed investigations have been initiated in such cases to clarify the status of the names.
Another major revelation during the SIR process was that over 900,000 people had permanently relocated from the state, necessitating amendments to their names. Similarly, the names of 900,000 deceased voters were also officially removed from the list. This step strengthens the accuracy and reliability of the electoral roll.
Election Commission teams have completed 100% of the form distribution, while approximately 70% of the forms have been successfully digitized. The remaining process is also being completed rapidly to ensure the final voter list is fully updated and error-free.
